Climate Drivers Contribute in Vegetation Greening Stalls of Arid Xinjiang, China: An Atmospheric Water Drying Effect

چکیده
Xinjiang, an arid region of China, has experienced a substantial warming–wetting trend over the past five decades. However, climate change affected vegetation growth/greening in Central Asia unexpected ways due to complex ecological effects. We found significant greening (consistent increase normalized difference index or NDVI) from 1982 1996, during growing season; however, NDVI consequently decreased and plateaued 1997 2015, especially naturally vegetated regions. Atmospheric vapor pressure deficit (VPD) is critical driver growth, direct measure atmospheric aridity, increased sharply recent A partial correlation analysis indicated relationship between season VPD 2015. This implies that corresponds increasing NDVI, decrease plateauing trend. Using derivative equation method, our results suggest was primarily by (contributing 87.57%) grassland desert biomes. Rising temperatures lead greater VPD, resulting exacerbated evaporative water loss. Soil drought aridity limit plant stomatal conductance could effectively mortality Xinjiang. Our emphasize importance as limiting factor trends The influence on growth should be considered when evaluating ecosystem functioning under global warming.

Spatial and temporal patterns of Holocene vegetation and climate changes in arid and semi-arid China
Pollen data from 30 sites in arid and semi-arid regions of China were reviewed to document regional patterns of Holocene vegetation and climate change and to understand the large-scale controls on these changes. Vegetation at most sites in eastern Inner Mongolia switched between forest, forest steppe, and typical steppe, showing maximum moisture conditions before 6 ka (1 ka 1⁄4 1000 cal yr BP) ...
متن کاملClimate drivers of the Amazon forest greening
Our limited understanding of the climate controls on tropical forest seasonality is one of the biggest sources of uncertainty in modeling climate change impacts on terrestrial ecosystems. Combining leaf production, litterfall and climate observations from satellite and ground data in the Amazon forest, we show that seasonal variation in leaf production is largely triggered by climate signals, s...
متن کاملEffect of management of water consumption on vegetation development in rainwater catchment systems in arid regions
The aim of this research was to study how water use management can increases vegetation cover inrainwater catchment systems. The study was conducted through comparison of two methods of irrigation, i.e. traditional sub-surface drip irrigation and drip irrigation. Three soil samples were taken and analyzed from three locations in north of Sistan from a depth of 50 cm. A furrow was dug with a bas...
متن کاملImpact of Climate Change on Vegetation Growth in Arid Northwest of China from 1982 to 2011
Previous studies have concluded that the increase in vegetation in the arid northwest of China is related to precipitation rather than temperature. However, these studies neglected the effects of climate warming on water availability that arise through changes in the melting characteristics of this snowy and glaciated region. Here, we characterized vegetation changes using the newly improved th...
متن کاملResponses of Natural Vegetation Dynamics to Climate Drivers in China from 1982 to 2011
This study investigated the spatiotemporal variation of vegetation growth and the influence of climatic drivers from 1982 to 2011 across China using datasets from the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and climatic drivers. Long term trends, significance and abrupt change points of interannual NDVI time series were analyzed. We applied both simple regression and multi-regression mode...
